The Library Foundation raises funds to support increased Web services and database enhancements for the Los Angeles Public Library so that the Library can:
  • Implement new and emerging applications that improve patron and staff communications, including instant-messaging, podcasting, RSS feeds, and email notification of events and Library news.
  • Add more subscription databases, online self-teaching programs, and downloadable e-audio, e-video and e-music titles.
  • Add new features to the Library's Web site to enhance patron access to resources and services, such as online tutoring and personalized booklists.

It is essential for the Library to have the ability to increase web services, add research databases, and stay on the cutting edge with the latest advances in database information technology. In 2007-08, the Library's homepage, which is accessible worldwide via the Internet, had over 119 million "hits." In addition, the Library offers more than 100 research databases that were accessed in excess of one million times last fiscal year.

Contributions to the New Technologies Fund help the Foundation to support advances in technology.
