The Children's Summer Reading Club keeps kids reading when school is not in session. Designed for children ages preschool to 12 years, the program features a new theme every year to attract children and their parents.

The club theme encourages children to explore the library's collection of books and other resources. Librarians work with schools to promote this program, extensively. Every child who enrolls receives a decorative folder with a log to keep a record of the books they've read. Each of the 72 branches and Central Library hosts a variety of special Reading Club family programs and activities that can include wildlife demonstrations, storytelling, arts and crafts, music, puppets, and author talks. These programs are designed to promote regular library usage and include a book-related component to encourage further reading and learning.

The 2011 Children's Summer Reading Club "One World, Many Stories" begins in June and runs through August. Children ages 4 to 12 can sign up at any of the Los Angeles Public Library's 72 branches and the Central Library.

In 2010, the Children's Summer Reading Club theme was "Knight Time Reading", that attracted 35,601 children. Authors, artists, magicians, musicians, storytellers, puppeteers, and children's librarians presented 595 programs in the branches and at Central Library.
