Volunteers and interns at the Library Foundation of Los Angeles are not just passionate about books, reading, and libraries, but rather everything that the Public Library offers: community, life-long learning, free access to technology, culture, history, and much more. Through volunteering or interning at the Library Foundation, you can help support the educational and cultural programs of the Los Angeles Public Libraries.
Interning with the Library Foundation
Interns can acquire new skills and valuable experience working with an independent fundraising organization that is committed to enhancing the resources and services offered to the entire community of Los Angeles.
We ask that our interns commit to at least one semester (for non-students, six months) of work with the Library Foundation. Weekly time commitments will vary, but volunteers should be available for a minimum of 10 hours per week, with a maximum of 24 hours. Internships are unpaid, but may be transferrable with course credit or community service requirements.
During your internship you’ll learn about the Los Angeles Public Library and how the Foundation partners to support it. For more information, please contact Libby McCarthy, Special Project Manager at (213) 228-7503, or libbymccarthy@lfla.org
Volunteering at the Library Store
The Library Store at the Central Library seeks enthusiastic volunteers to help sell a wide range of specialty merchandise, including gifts for readers and writers, signed books, Los Angeles Public Library merchandise, and unique gift items including jewelry, educational toys, and stationery. All proceeds benefit the Public Library.
In addition to attending special events, volunteers assist with a variety of tasks ranging from helping customers, to gift wrapping, and arranging display cases. A minimum commitment of three hours per month is required.
To learn more, please contact Christine Romero, Director of Retail Services, at (213) 228-7551.
