Serving the community as ambassadors for the library, The Council works in partnership with the Library Foundation to facilitate special programs and fundraising events that increase public awareness of programs and services offered by the library.
This dedicated group of civic-minded volunteers formed in 1994 through the vision of Flora Thornton, who recognized the need for wider visibility of the library’s fundamental value to the Los Angeles community. Now with over 350 members, The Council presents some of the most spectacular literary events of the year to help raise crucial funds for the library’s educational and cultural programs and services.
As core supporters of the Library Foundation, Council members receive invitations throughout the year to exclusive author lunches, dinners, and receptions, which allow them the opportunity to engage in conversations with authors and discuss their work in an intimate setting.
The Council's bi-annual Literary Feasts raise significant funds for the Los Angeles Public Library. This unique and extraordinary evening, invites distinguished authors from around the country to be honored dinner guests in the most beautiful private homes in Los Angeles.
