Readings and Conversation

Gilmore’s “Golden Country” vividly brings to life the intertwining stories of three immigrants seeking their fortunes. In Freudenberger’s “The Dissident,” a performance artist/political activist collides with a wealthy Beverly Hills family. In these extraordinary first novels, family dynamics and cultures in collision are lined with hilarity and wisdom.

Freudenberger graduated from Harvard and has traveled extensively in Asia. Her travel writing has been published in Travel + Leisure, Salon, The New Yorker, and The Telegraph Magazine. She has written book reviews for The New York Times, The New Yorker, Vogue and The Nation.
