Drawing on more than 6,000 pages of Leonardo's surviving notebooks, Capra reveals Leonardo—whose studies ranged from the flight patterns of birds to the mechanics of light—as the unacknowledged "father of science."

Fritjof Capra, Ph.D., physicist and systems theorist, is a founding director of the Center for Ecoliteracy in Berkeley, California, which promotes ecology and systems thinking in primary and secondary education. He is on the faculty of Schumacher College, an international center for ecological studies in England, and frequently gives management seminars for top executives. Dr. Capra is the author of five international bestsellers, The Tao of Physics (1975), The Turning Point (1982), Uncommon Wisdom (1988), The Web of Life (1996), and The Hidden Connections (2002). He coauthored Green Politics (1984), Belonging to the Universe (1991), and EcoManagement (1993), and coedited Steering Business Toward Sustainability (1995). His most recent book is The Science of Leonardo.

Manuel Castells is Professor of Communication and the Wallis Annenberg Chair in Communication Technology and Society at the Annenberg Schoolfor Communication, University of Southern California (USC), Los Angeles. He holds joint appointments as Professor of Sociology in the USC Sociology Department,  Professor of Planning in the USC School of Policy, Planning, and Development, and Professor of International Relations in the USC School of International Relations.  He is, as well, Research Professor at the Open University of Catalonia in Barcelona, and Professor Emeritus, University of California, Berkeley, where he was Professor of City and Regional Planning and Professor of Sociology from 1979 to 2003 before joining USC. In addition to his many accomplishments and honors, he has been knighted for cause of scientific merit by the Governments of France (Order of Arts and Letters), Finland (Order of the Lion of Finland), Chile (Order of Gabriela Mistral), Portugal (Order of Santiago da Espada), and Catalonia (Cross of Saint George).
