Chasing the Flame:Sergio Vieira de Mello and the Fight to Save the World

The Pulitzer Prize-winning author reveals the powerful legacy of the incomparable humanitarian who lost his life in a terrorist attack on UN Headquarters in Iraq in 2003.

Samantha Power is the Anna Lindh Professor of Global Leadership and Public Policy Practice at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government and a foreign policy columnist at Time magazine. In 2003, her book, A Problem from Hell: America and the Age of Genocide, was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for General Nonfiction, the National Book Critics Circle Award for general nonfiction, the J. Anthony Lukas Book Prize, and the Council on Foreign Relations’ Arthur Ross Prize for the best book in U.S. foreign policy.

 

 

Terry George first collaborated with director Jim Sheridan on his 1985 play "The Tunnel", based on his own experiences as a prisoner in British jails in Northern Ireland. He co-scripted “In the Name of theFather” (1993) with Sheridan which earned them an Oscar nomination fo rBest Screenplay. He reunited with Sheridan to make his feature directorial debut with "Some Mother's Son" (1996), and with Sheridan again behind the camera, the two collaborated again on "The Boxer" (1997), which like "In the Name of the Father" also starred Daniel Day-Lewis, this time as a former IRA activist released from prison after 14 years and drawn back into old conflicts. In 2004 George directed "Hotel Rwanda," the true-life tale of Rwanda hotel manager Paul Rusesabagina who used his considerable skills and resources to protect over 1,000 Tutsis fleeing genocide in 1994. His most recent film is “Reservation Road,” based on the novel by JohnBurnham Schwartz.
