Helping Teens & Students Succeed
The library's commitment to children continues through the teen years. Library programs supported by the library foundation not only help teens succeed in school, but also prepare them for careers and continuing education. Local library teen councils provide librarians with valuable input for selecting material that meets teens' special needs. The library's wide range of programs challenge teen minds, help them build self-esteem and inspire them to continue their education.
Now in its fourth year, for instance, the Student Smart program provides Princeton Review classes held free of charge in libraries that help students improve their study skills and prepare for SAT, PSAT and college entrance exams.
Teens also have access to free online
Live
Homework Help where
online tutors are available on demand every day from
3 to 10 p.m. for
one-to-one help with homework, skills building and test prep. Between
school terms the teen
summer reading club,
a citywide program, is designed to cultivate a lifelong love of reading.
Teen Web, a special section of the library Web site, keeps teens informed
about the many programs offered by the library.
Another popular program, Teen Talk, encourages young adults to explore alternatives to drugs, gangs and other at-risk activities.
