Bringing Technology's Benefitsto Everyone
As crowded as our libraries have become, we know that millions more people are using the library from their home, school or office through the library's content-rich Web site, www.lapl.org. As a result of our investment in technology with the help of the library foundation, we're delivering an unprecedented range of information including databases, special collections, photographs and downloadable books, movies, music and other media to meet people's information needs 24/7.
The library has also become a popular place for people to bring their computer and access our free Internet Wi-Fi service. This year, Wi-Fi access has soared to nearly 500,000 connections—more than double the amount in 2007.
No computer of your own? No problem. Those without a PC are using the library's 2,200 free computers to access information, search job postings, e-mail resumes and keep in touch with distant family and friends.
Throughout Los Angeles, the library is the one institution that provides everyone in every community with a bridge over the digital divide.
