Invest in New Readers
The library is committed to breaking the cycle of low literacy in our community. With a range of reading programs for children, teens, and adults, the LFLA makes these life-changing resources available for free across the city.

We Read Together
Equips pre-school (0-5 years-old) children with a head start on reading and writing by teaching their parents/caregivers techniques on how to read aloud and build crucial pre-literacy skills.
Grandparents and Books
Created by the Los Angeles Public Library and adopted by libraries around the world, the program cultivates a life-long love of reading by bringing together older adults and children to read for pleasure.
Children's Summer Reading Clubs
Through fun activities from puppet shows to live storytelling, this program strengthens children’s (0-12 years-old) reading skills and encourages their interest in reading when school is out for the summer.
Teen Summer Reading Clubs
Fostering teens’ (11-19 years-old) enthusiasm for non-required reading, this summer club enhances critical thinking and reading skills through book discussions, film screenings, music, and more.
Adult Literacy
Helps adults to improve their English literacy skills to a 6th grade level through one-on-one tutoring, self-directed, and online practice at literacy centers in 21 neighborhood libraries.
